This wine has nice dark notes on the nose and palate. The aromas start with nice smoky berry aromas and open up further with coffee and dark chocolate. On the palate the wine is big and full bodied yet it displays a wonderful level of balance and elegance. The tannins are nicely refined and frame the wines generous mid-palate very well. The finish is medium long and has nice lingering effect.

Our 2009 Monticello Jefferson Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon is another wonderful mix of four of our vineyards across the Napa Valley floor. For 2009, we blended in our three Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards and our Home Ranch Cabernet Franc. The combination of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc creates a powerful yet refined and balanced blend.
Cabernet Sauvignon: State Lane Vineyard – Yountville, Napa Valley
Cabernet Sauvignon: Tietjen Vineyard on Niebaum Lane – Rutherford, Napa Valley
Cabernet Sauvignon: Yewell Vineyard on Ehlers Lane – St Helena, Napa Valley
Cab Franc: Home Ranch Vineyard – Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley
Cuvee: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon / 25% Cabernet Franc
Oak: 22 Months in French Oak, 30% New Alcohol - 14.2%
Though rainfall was little more than two-thirds of normal for the third year in a row, the timing of the precipitation was on the vine’s side. Couple that with the lack of frost and the mild, relatively cool growing season - 2009 counted perhaps only four or five high heat days overall - late spring rains delayed irrigation needs and the warm spell in June helped curtail excessive canopy development. Mother Nature managed to have it all work in unison to give vines and grapes the best scenario possible.
