Corley Family Napa Valley

2014 STATE LANE VINEYARD Cabernet Sauvignon Image

2014 STATE LANE VINEYARD Cabernet Sauvignon
CORLEY

This wine is offering wonderful aromas of dark blackberry, cassis, hints of vanilla, and undertones of sweet caramel from the barrels. On the palate, the wine is bold upon entry, with characteristically robust tannins on the edges of the palate. The midpalate is full, providing depth and a strong foundation. The finish is long and lingering, and with a slight grip, as is typical for this vineyard.

Ratings
JAMES SUCKLING RATING: 93 Points "Very perfumed and balanced with blackberry, cherry and chocolate character. Medium to full body with firm and silky tannins. A beauty. Drink now or hold." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JEB DUNNUCK – RATING: 90 POINTS “The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Corley State Lane Vineyard is another charming, polished elegant red. Aged 26 months in 50% new French oak it offers a deep purple/ruby color as well as classic notes of black currants, spice-box, integrated oak, and graphite. Medium-bodied, supple and seamless on the palate, with sweet tannin, it should keep for 10-12 years.” -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONNOISSEURS GUIDE – TWO STARS (91-94 POINTS) “A highly distinctive wine. The Corley bunch from 2014 is an accomplished collection of deeply draughted wines, and, among them, this one stands out for its impressions of extra polish and richness. It marries a wealth of optimally ripened, remarkably continuous, curranty fruit with a beautifully measured complement of creamy oak while plentiful complexing notes of tobacco, cocoa and sweet spice augment its considerable appeals. It is substantial without being tough and has the structure of a wine destined to age extraordinarily well, and we are fully confident that it will provide satisfying drinking for a great many years to come.” – Charles Olken -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESTAURANT WINE “Corley’s 2014 Cabernets (and blends) are very impressive wines, and among its best ever.” -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “2014 was also an excellent vintage in California, where hundreds of producers made terrific Cabernet-based wines. Strongly recommended here are those from Corley (best reds, ever)” -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “The State Lane is exceptional: very distinctive in character (blackberry, pomegranate, cassis, green olive, cedar, tobacco), it is a full bodied, concentrated wine with a long palate evolution. Very fine quality. Needs aging. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged 26 months in French oak barrels, 50% new.”
Vineyard Notes
Our State Lane Vineyard produces fruit that is deep, dark, and bold. Located in the Yountville AVA, the cooler climate allows for a longer growing season which contributes to the Cabernet grapes slow, even ripening.
Production Notes
2014 was another wonderful wine-growing season in Napa Valley. A true classic. A wet February gave way to a characteristically dry spring. Except for slight heat spikes in June and then again in July, the weather remained consistent throughout the growing season. The accumulation of heat during the summer led to a slightly early harvest. The sunny weather through to October allowed the grapes to develop more phenolic and flavor maturities with sugar levels remaining steady. The 2014 vintage repeated many of the blessings that came in the 2012 and 2013 vintages, from the deeply colored and velvety grape skins and brown seeds, to fully ripened grape tannins, and a wonderful natural balance of brix and acidity.
